Why We Ask For Five Photos

A Real-World Hook

Imagine a fitter arriving at your workplace with the wrong windscreen and no ADAS parts — you lose time, the job is delayed and you pay twice. In our experience, five clear photos prevent that. If you’re a driver in Essex or Hertfordshire, a fleet manager or anyone booking a mobile windscreen visit, this guide shows exactly which shots to send, how to take them and what happens next.

Get The Right Glass First

Your photos confirm the exact windscreen, tint and sensor pack fitted to your car. We use them to order the correct glass and parts straight away so there are no wrong items and no wasted trips.

Save Time And Avoid Repeats

We match your screen before we arrive. A common issue we see is customers having to reschedule because a spec was missed — clear images keep jobs on schedule and reduce cost.

Protect ADAS And Safety Systems

Modern windscreens house cameras and sensors. Clear photos let us supply ADAS‑ready glass and plan the right calibration. For identification help, see our windscreen identification page and our guide on how to know what kind of glass your car has.

What Most People Get Wrong

Most people send single, reflective close‑ups that hide the mount or surrounding frit. We need both a close and a wider shot to match the variant accurately.

When This Doesn’t Apply

If you have a plainly marked commercial fleet vehicle or the original fitting paperwork, we may identify the glass from the reg and fit details without every photo — but photos speed everything up.

Quick Checklist

  • Five photos: VIN, ADAS area, rain/light sensor, mirror mount, edge stamp
  • Include reg, postcode and preferred visit time
  • Send by WhatsApp, text, email or via the contact form

How To Send Your Photos

Use Your Phone

No special camera needed. Wipe the glass, turn off the flash and use daylight. Tap to focus and hold steady for a second.

Send By Your Favourite Method

Text, WhatsApp or email all work. You can also attach photos to our contact form. Include your registration so we can look up the vehicle quickly.

Add Helpful Details

Tell us your postcode, best time to visit and whether you want a home, workplace or roadside call. For quick turnarounds, consider our mobile windscreen fitters.

Photo 1 – VIN Plate

Where To Find It

Check the bottom of the windscreen on the driver’s side. If it’s not visible through the glass, find the driver’s door pillar sticker.

How To Photograph It

Take a close, in‑focus photo through the glass so all 17 characters are readable. Tilt the phone slightly to reduce reflections.

Why We Need It

The VIN confirms your exact model, trim and equipment. In our experience it saves a return visit by ensuring the correct screen, tint and sensor spec.

Photo 2 – ADAS Camera/Sensor Area (Behind The Mirror)

Inside Shot

From the front seats, photograph the top‑centre of the screen showing the camera window, dotted band and any plastic covers around the mirror.

Outside Shot

Take a second photo from outside to show camera lenses, heating elements and the shape of the bracket. These details tell us which screen variant you need.

Tell Us What You Use

Mention lane assist, traffic sign recognition or emergency braking. That helps us plan safe calibration. Read our complete guide to ADAS for more detail.

Photo 3 – Rain/Light Sensor

Find The Sensor Pad

Look near the mirror at the top of the screen. Capture the pad shape, gel and any cover in a close shot.

Show The Surroundings

Include the dotted frit and any nearby sensors like humidity or driver monitoring. A wide and a close photo together are most useful.

Note Your Features

Tell us if you have auto wipers or auto lights. We’ll match the sensor type so features work exactly as before.

Photo 4 – Rear‑View Mirror Mount And Covers

Wide Shot

Photograph the mirror, plastic shrouds and any attached modules such as dash cams. This confirms the layout we’ll refit.

Close‑Up Of The Mount

Take a clear shot of the metal “button” or bonded bracket. Different mounts need different screens or adaptors.

Include Cables And Trim

Show any wiring looms or clips so we bring the right trims and tools. See our windscreen replacement process for how we refit trims.

Photo 5 – Edge Markings (Glass Stamp)

Find The Stamp

Look at a lower corner of the screen, often passenger side. Take a sharp, readable photo of the printed markings.

Capture All Details

Ensure the brand, E‑mark and any codes (acoustic, solar) are legible. Tilt the phone to avoid glare. If heated, include the fine heating lines or symbol.

Unsure About A Code?

If you don’t recognise a marking, send the photo and we’ll decode it for you. See our page on what AS2 means on glass for examples.

Make Your Photos Clear First Time

Lighting And Focus

Shoot in daylight or use a torch from an angle. Tap the screen to focus and take two shots if needed.

Beat Reflections

Step slightly to the side and tilt the phone. Switch off the camera flash and interior lights to reduce glare.

Include Context

For every close‑up, add one wider photo so we can see where the part sits on the screen. Clear images speed up identification and the booking process.

FAQs

What should I send if I’m unsure which photos to take?

Send the five photos listed plus a wider shot of the whole windscreen. If you include the reg and postcode we can usually identify any missing detail.

Do you calibrate ADAS on the same visit?

Yes. Where possible we complete fitting and calibration on site so your driver aids work before you set off.

Can you fit at my workplace car park?

Usually yes. We need safe access and enough space to open doors and set up equipment; tell us the layout when you book.

What if the weather is bad on the day?

We carry covers and can often work in light rain. If conditions are unsafe we’ll rearrange promptly to suit you.

Will you reuse my dash cam or mirror shrouds?

Yes. We refit existing trims and accessories wherever possible, or advise if new clips or covers are needed.

How long before I can drive after a replacement?

Most vehicles are safe to drive about an hour after bonding. Your fitter will confirm the exact time for your vehicle on site.
